ActiveObjects is an intuitive, pure-Java ORM (Object Relational Mapping). AO is designed from the ground up to be extremely simple and easy to use from an API standpoint. AO can be used with either an existing database schema, or it can auto-generate the database schema from the user-specified entity interfaces. ActiveObjects also supports Rails-style database migrations, allowing incremental changes and refactoring of the database schema without data loss.
ActiveObjects can be more performant than traditional, data mapper ORMs due to its natural use of lazy-loading coupled with sophisticated caching mechanisms.
However, performance is not the primary design goal of the project. Rather, the intention is to create an ORM which is powerful and yet extremely natural to use and integrate into your project. Ummh…menurut saya, singkatnya Active Object itu adalah suatu cara di Java untuk mengakses database tanpa harus menuliskan query-query dasar SQL (select, update, delete, dll) dalam aplikasi yang kita buat.
Jadi dengan Active Object ini, terdapat perintah-perintah baru yang sejenis dg query. ActiveObjects is a powerful, efficient and highly-intuitive Java ORM. Its syntax is flexible and easy to use, and its lack of extensive configuration requirements means it can cut out dozens of XML files and hundreds of lines of code. By utilizing certain syntax-streamlining features in the Java language, ActiveObjects is able to easily accommodate almost any schema requirements without bulking up your code or introducing complexity.
